MAYDAY – A Call for HUMANITY

MAYDAY VZW is a bridge between art, humanity, community and cooperation — starting from Bruges, but reaching far beyond borders.

Born from lived experiences of struggle, loss and resilience, MAYDAY grew from a simple belief: people should not have to face everything alone.

We want to connect people, knowledge, organisations and networks and turn those connections into concrete action.

MAYDAY can take many forms — art and culture, music, sport, education, health and wellbeing, science, humanitarian action, support for children and families, community projects, environmental initiatives, sustainable agriculture and international cooperation.

There is no single country, cause or community at the centre of MAYDAY.

Humanity is.

We stand for children, families and innocent people affected by war, violence, poverty, hunger, displacement, illness, isolation or circumstances beyond their control — wherever they are in the world.

We believe every human being deserves dignity, every child deserves safety and a future, animals deserve protection, and our planet must be treated as our shared home.

MAYDAY is independent of borders, religion, background or political ideology. It is an open network for people who want to contribute, cooperate, share knowledge, create, organise or simply help turn a good idea into something real.

Because so much already exists.

People. Knowledge. Experience. Creativity. Resources. Organisations. Networks.

What is often missing is the connection.

That is where MAYDAY begins.

From 2 persons helping another to a community initiative, a benefit, an artistic collaboration or an international humanitarian project — it can start anywhere and grow from there.

Not another island.

Will you answer the MAYDAY?

MAYDAY is moving forward.

Those who know me know I have always been entrepreneurial. I started my first business at 18, while still studying: a cocktail bar in Oostduinkerke. Later came real estate, Channel 16 in Zeebrugge, Crete and international experience as Assistant Marketing Manager at Laguna Phuket in Thailand.

Over the years, I built a broad network across art, hospitality, business, sport, social and political circles — in Bruges, Belgium and internationally, across Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States.

I have also always connected people behind the scenes: helping where I could, finding the right contact when something got stuck and bringing together people who could actually make something happen.

That is exactly what I now want to bring together through MAYDAY VZW.

The VZW is established. The website and social media are running. The network and international contacts are there. Art, ideas and projects are already taking shape.

Now it is time for the next step: opening MAYDAY to more people and turning those connections into action.

Artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, people from sport, hospitality, healthcare, science, education and humanitarian organisations, companies and associations — but just as importantly, people with an idea, experience, useful contacts or simply the willingness to get involved.

MAYDAY is not starting from zero. Now it needs to grow.

MAYDAY HUB — BRUGES

I have a remarkable location in mind in central Bruges.

A public MAYDAY hub for art, exhibitions, benefit evenings, meetings, talks, social and cultural initiatives, sport, collaborations and events.

A base from which larger benefits, events and festivals can grow.

Local in Bruges. Across Belgium. International whenever our network can make a difference.

Congo is part of that international network, with humanitarian possibilities already developing around children and vulnerable communities. But MAYDAY is not about one country, one cause or one problem.

FIRST BENEFIT — LYME

My own Lyme journey changed my health and my ability to work dramatically.

Until now, I have largely financed MAYDAY myself — including the website and start-up costs — while currently living on a limited sickness benefit.

So instead of waiting, I want to act.

One of the first MAYDAY benefit evenings will support my own Lyme recovery and create some much-needed financial breathing room.

My years of experience, research and documentation around Lyme can later also become useful to other Lyme patients struggling with health, work, income and the administrative consequences of long-term illness.

Lyme is part of my story. It is not the definition of MAYDAY.

CURRENT ACTION — HAIR DONATION

I am currently growing my hair for VZW Haarwensen Belgium.

When it is long enough, Ronny De Sutter in Lissewege will cut it and the hair will be donated to help children who have lost their hair through illness.

Simple, concrete and something that can genuinely make a difference.

WHAT'S NEXT?

I am looking for people who want to join MAYDAY, bring an idea, share expertise or contacts, propose a project, help organise a benefit, collaborate, sponsor or help make the Bruges hub possible.

Art, music, sport, hospitality, business, science, healthcare, education, technology, environment, humanitarian work — or something we haven't thought of yet.

Different worlds and networks brought together to see what we can actually make happen.

For the Bruges hub, I am also looking at sponsorship, partnerships, financing or other legally and fiscally correct ways to make the start possible.

A lot is already there.

Now we need to activate it.
